ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Two men are now charged in connection with Tuesday night’s shooting at a police officer.

Prosecutors have charged 19 year old Robert Simmons with First Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Armed Criminal Action. 24 year old Demetrius Vanarsdale is charged with Unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.

It’s alleged the pair shot at a police officer after he tried to stop their speeding vehicle in North St. Louis.

Police Major Joe Spiess told the Post Dispatch he had stopped pursuing the vehicle at Sarah and Evans and as he proceeded slowly along Evans a man walked up to his patrol car and fired point blank into the window. Major Spiess said he hit the gas and as his squad car was speeding away the suspect continued to fire at him, as much as sixteen times.

The suspects were captured in a residence on West Evans where three handguns were recovered.
