Concealed Carry Ban Will Be Enforced At Alton Block Parties
ALTON, IL (KMOX) - Expect to be arrested if you carry a firearm into any Alton business or event where alcohol is being served.
The city’s block parties kick off tomorrow and Emily Hejna with the Alton Police Department says there are exceptions to Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons’ decision not to prosecute residents who are carrying concealed firearms.
“If you look at the fine print on the State’s Attorney’s information that he has put out, it is only for certain sections of the law and one of those sections that is not changed is addressing firearms being anywhere where they sell intoxicating beverages,” she said.
Restrictions also exist, according to Hejna, for “any public gathering where they have to have a license issued by a government body or anywhere that admission is charged.”
Hejna says next week Alton’s Summer Concert Series starts up and if you bring a gun there, you will be arrested and prosecuted. She also strongly discourages anyone from leaving their firearm in a car.
