Record-Breaking Heat Wave Hits Southern California

O’FALLON, Ill. (KMOX) — An O’Fallon, Ill. father will face child endangerment charges after he accidentally left his 2-year-old son in a hot car Thursday afternoon leading to the child’s death.

It happened around 5 p.m. in the 300 block of Joy Drive.

Police say the unidentified father put his son in the car in preparation for a day out, but after strapping the boy in he “became distracted, one thing led to another” and he forgot about his son.

When the boy’s mother returned home two-and-half hours later she discovered the boy’s lifeless body inside the superheated car.

Highs on Thursday reached above 90 degrees, and the temperature in the vehicle was much higher. (exact unknown)

Charges are expected later today.
