ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The American Cancer Society is searching for volunteers for a study that could last up to three decades to complete.

Spokesperson Claire Thibodeaux says Cancer Prevention Study 3, or CPS3, is hoping to enroll 300,000 individuals nationwide, about 6,500 in Illinois.

“I think we can all agree that cancer is better to prevent than to treat,” Thibodeaux says. “So, we really need to know as much about prevention as we possibly can.”

In-person exams are scheduled around the state of Illinois for those willing to take part in CPS3.

The closest one to the St. Louis area will take place in September. Check back in with KMOX for more information in the near future.
