EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOX) – What was once being pitched as the “River’s Edge Entertainment District” in East St. Louis got a name change during a special council meeting Wednesday night. It will now be called “River’s Edge Business District.”
East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks says there was too much opposition because of a perception that it would only have night clubs and other adult entertainment. He says although the council took the word ‘entertainment’ out, it won’t be without that important element.
“Our focus primarily is on family oriented entertainment. What can we do to generate music festivals, maybe a gospel fest, maybe a jazz fest,” Mayor Parks told KMOX.
He says funding mechanisms are in place to create this special district from 10th street to the riverfront. He says there is also a master plan on paper and on CD and all the city has to do now, is market the district.
