ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Louis Cardinals have teamed up with FOX Sports Midwest and the Cardinals Radio Network to raise money for Cardinals Care by auctioning off exclusive, one-of-a-kind experiences for Cardinals fans during the broadcasts on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, when the Cardinals take on their former NL Central rival, the Houston Astros.

The television broadcast auction begins as soon as the first pitch is thrown and continues through the seventh inning, and the radio auction starts during the pre-game show and continues through the sixth inning. This year’s auction includes many unique items for Cardinals fans to bid on, including a Mike Matheny VIP experience, a private dinner with Hall-of-Famer Lou Brock, a Mike Shannon and John Rooney Experience, the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch, and the chance to play catch on the field with Cardinals rookie Shelby Miller. Fans can bid on the auction items by calling the telephone numbers provided during the broadcast on FOX Sports Midwest (314.345.9418) and the Cardinals Radio Network (314.436.7900).

Fans can also take advantage of a special Cardinals ticket offer, available only throughout the duration of the July 9th auction and game. Five dollars from every Cardinals ticket purchased for the Edward Jones Hall of Fame Weekend, July 19-21 against the San Diego Padres, will benefit Cardinals Care.

General donations to Cardinals Care will also gladly be accepted via the broadcasted phone numbers, or by donating online at cardinals.com/donate.

“The broadcast auction is really all about kids,” said Michael Hall, Vice President of Community Relations and Executive Director of Cardinals Care. “Not only will the proceeds of the night support Cardinals Care and the work we do to help kids in our community, but for the fans, winning one of these auction experiences will make them feel like a kid living out their baseball dreams.”

The July 9th auction is the second Cardinals auction with FOX Sports Midwest and the Cardinals Radio Network. The broadcast partners first teamed together in summer of 2011 to support Cardinals Care and the Joplin Relief Fund. Together they raised over $100,000 for Joplin through the first-ever broadcast auction of once-in-a-lifetime Cardinals experiences.

Cardinals Care was established to give fans a way of teaming up with Cardinals players and the Cardinals organization to help children in our community – both on and off the baseball field. Since being established in 1997, Cardinals Care has invested $19 million in helping children, including providing $11 million in grants. They have also helped in the building of 20 youth ball fields in neighborhoods in both Missouri and Illinois. In 2013, Cardinals Care celebrates the 10th anniversary of the innovative Redbird Rookies program, a free baseball league for kids who otherwise might not have the opportunity to play. In addition to providing all the uniforms, gloves, bats, balls and other equipment needed for each team, Redbird Rookies also provides extensive off-field support in the areas of health, education, mentoring and the cultural arts for each of the nearly 4,500 kids who participate in the program each year.
