Tight Race At The Movie Box Office
Animated movies with a family friendly script continue to prove they are golden at the turnstiles. In its second week in release, “Despicable Me 2” came in number one again with $44.8 million. It now has taken in a whooping $229.2 million in just 14 days.
The juvenile comedy “Grown Ups 2” came in second based on the marquee value of its stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock and David Spade. It took in $42.5 million.
The new sc fi movie about giant robots and even bigger creatures spawned on the ocean floor, “Pacific Rim,” came in third its opening weekend with $38.3 million, a somewhat less than projected amount. In 4th place was “The Heat” with $14 million. In 5th place was “The Lone Ranger” taking in $11.1 million. “The Lone Ranger” looks to be one of the biggest disappointments at the box office so far in 2013. Opening this coming Wednesday is the new animated movie “Turbo.”
Opening this coming Friday is a film about dead cops who come back in the name of law and order. It’s called “R.I.P.D” and stars Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds.
