ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay, D-St. Louis, is one who feels the case against George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin should not be closed.
- Listen to Rep. Clay’s interview below:
“I still think that we ought to pursue justice in this case,” Clay said on KMOX Monday. “That would include the Justice Department reexamining what has happened.”
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder called the killing a “tragic, unnecessary shooting.”
Holder says the Justice Department will follow “the facts and the law” as it reviews evidence to see whether federal criminal charges are warranted.
Clay says the Zimmerman case points to a much larger societal issue.
“This whole proliferation of firearms has gotten out of hand,” he said. “I don’t think we need a neighborhood watch person walking around armed like they are the police when they are not.”
