Real Estate Mogul Killed in Home Near Town & Country, Wife Charged
COUNTRY LIFE ACRES, Mo. (KMOX) - Homicide detectives were at a sprawling, seven-figure home on a private street near Town & Country Wednesday night, investigating the apparent fatal stabbing of a real estate mogul.
St. Louis County Police have identified the victim as Ivan L. Mullenix Sr., 76. Mullinex owned several apartment complexes and hotels in St. Charles County.
Mullinex’s wife, Mary Mullenix, 69, was charged Thursday with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and tampering with evidence. She is being held on $500,000 bond.
Town and Country authorities were called to the home on Country Life Acres Dr. around 11:30 p.m. after a family member reported the stabbing.
Several hours later, the case was handed over to St. Louis County detectives.
Additional details about the crime have not been released but authorities say they are not looking for more suspects.
Police have declined to give a possible motive for the fatal stabbing.
Neighbors say the couple, who were longtime residents of the area, had domestic issues but neighbors didn’t expect anything like this to occur.
“You’re surprised any time you hear something like that happens, especially that close to your house,” Tim Clark, who lives across the street, says. “But as close as we live, I can’t say we know them well at all.”
“They were fairly private people so, you know, it’s hard to tell for sure what prompted it,” neighbor Gary Gorsuch added.
About 70 people live in the small village of Country Life Acres.
