GRAFTON, Ill. (KMOX) – After being docked for about three years, the Grafton Ferry is expected to return to the water on Friday.
The ferry reduces travel time for those looking to go from St. Charles County to Grafton, Ill., by more than a half-hour, in addition to making it easier for commuters and businesses. Grafton’s wineries, shops and restaurants are expecting a boost in business.
The ferry runs from just off Highway 94 on the Missouri side to the Grafton landing, near the Grafton Lighthouse and Market Street.
The reopening comes after two weeks of dredging across the Mississippi River.
In addition to cars, the Ferry will be able to carry buses and vans. A one way ride will cost $8 and a round trip $15.
The ferry will begin running after a ribbon cutting ceremony set for 11 a.m. Friday morning.
