ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – There’s more evidence that St. Louis is a hotbed for start-ups companies.
The @4240 building in Midtown’s CORTEX research district has a nearly full list of tenants, even though its $73 million rehab from an old telephone building won’t be finished until January.
New York-based Colliers International is the leasing agent for the 183,000-square-foot laboratory and research building.
Colliers Vice President Rebekah Bahn says @4240 is attracting interest from technology and bio-technology start-ups from around the world, as well as companies who would assist the start-ups.
“We also are going to have sort of incubators who’ll maybe take them from the very beginning up to funding and then they’ll move into an office area within the facility,” she says.
Bahn says some of the companies are from St. Louis, others are from elsewhere in the country, and a few are from overseas.
One of those incubators, the Cambridge Innovation Center, plans St. Louis for its first facility outside of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Another big announcement may be made Wednesday night, during a tour of the building’s progress.
