ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — A lower back strain has Cardinals pitcher Jake Westbrook heading to the 15-day disabled list. Carlos Martinez fills the roster spot, but Tyler Lyons will make the start Monday against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Cardinals made the DL move retroactive to August 22.

Lyons, recalled on August 17, has made seven starts for the Cardinals this year, going 2-4 with a 5.35 ERA. His last start for the Cardinals was at Pittsburgh on July 30 during Game 2 of doubleheader against the Pirates when he allowed four runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings pitched.

Martinez, who made his first Major League start on August 8 vs. the Dodgers, is 0-1 in 11 games (one start) for the Cardinals. The 21-year-old rookie has fanned 13 batters in his 16.0 innings pitched for St. Louis.
