Man Accused of Murdering Pregnant Woman in Hazelwood

HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KMOX) — A 26-year-old man is charged with 1st degree murder, accused of killing his pregnant live-in girlfriend in Hazelwood.

Denitra Jones’ body was discovered in a back bedroom of their home in the 5400 block of Forest Creek drive Monday morning.

Police wouldn’t release circumstances surrounding the 27-year-old’s death but said her death led officers to be suspicious. The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports Jones was strangled by a lamp cord.

Michael Jerome Collins was identified as a person of interest Monday.

He is now charged with two counts of 1st degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action.

He is being held on a $500,000 cash only bond at the St Louis County Detention facility in Clayton, Mo.

Police said Collins was the father of Jones’ two-month-old fetus.
