update on September 1, 2013 at 11am: St. Louis police identify the man killed in Saturday night’s crash as 32-year-old Michael Evans of Harrisburg, Illinois.

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A motorcyclist reportedly in town for the 2013 Ride of the Century died in a crash, Saturday night.

Police Chief Sam Dotson says the collision involved an undercover police officer at January and Elizabeth in south St. Louis, “Three motorcycles passed the police officer, doing stunts on the left-hand (driver’s) side. One motorcyclist passed the officer on the wrong (right-hand) side. That rider struck the mirror of the police car and he lost control of his bike. The bike and the individual came to rest in a grassy area next to the road. That’s where he was pronounced dead.”

Chief Dotson says the bikers didn’t know the car they were passing was a unmarked police squad car.

Early Saturday, another motorcyclist was killed when he ran a red light in St. Charles County.

Several dozen bikers, involving with the Ride of the Century event, have been arrested for pulling dangerous stunts since Thursday.
