Cardinal Dolan: Dialogue and Diplomacy Will Solve Syrian Crisis
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — St. Louis-native New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan says the only true path to peace in Syria is a political solution.
Cardinal Dolan told reporters in Washington, D.C. Wednesday, violence spurs more violence. That is why he welcomes dialogue between Syria, Russia, the United Nations and the United States.
“(The Holy Father) is consistently going to stay dialogue and diplomacy, boy they can get frustrating, boy they can tax our patience. But ultimately its about the best thing we have going, especially when you couple it with prayer and trust,” he said.
Cardinal Dolan said he has heard from many different religious leaders in the Middle East and while they say they don’t know what to do, they know what not to do.
“Please don’t send more troops, please don’t drop more bombs, please don’t send more arms, please don’t take military action because its going to hurt us even more,” said Dolan.
Adding, “that’s common sense. That’s realism.”
Cardinal Dolan called on the United States to work with other governments to begin building an inclusive peace in Syria.
