Crestwood Council Votes to Change Mall Developers

CRESTWOOD, Mo. (KMOX) – The vacant Crestwood Mall may be vacant a little longer than anticipated.

Tuesday night, the Crestwood City Council decided to find a new developer for the site.

The city is currently working with Chicago-based Centrum and Crestwood Mayor Jeff Schlink says the council’s decision to seek a new developer makes things a little “tricky” because Centrum is a partial owner of the mall property.

“We don’t know if we can just do that,” he said, referring to the change in developers. “Our city attorney has certainly researched that. I’m going to reach out to the developer and let them know what happened at the meeting.”

The council originally planned to vote on a planner for the mall which would have evaluated the feasibility of the project and conducted a market analysis.

Schlink says the majority of council members disagreed with Centrum’s plans for the former mall, leading to the developer switch.
