ST LOUIS (KMOX) – The St. Louis Blues had no problem showing the National Hockey League that they know how to score last night at the Scottrade Center.
Seven different Blues players found the back of the net as the team defeated the Florida Panthers 7-0 in front of a sold out crowd. Newcomers Brendan Morrow and Derek Roy both had two points in the victory including a goal and an assist each. Second year forward Jaden Schwartz gave the crowd a reason to shout with a Gordie Howe hat trick scoring a goal, an assist, and a fight with Panthers forward Kris Versteeg.
Goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped 19 shots recording his first shut-out of the season and 17th as a Blue. The shut-out Saturday night moved Halak ahead of Glenn Hall for most shut-outs as a St. Louis Blue.
The Panthers tried to claw their way back into the game, not with goals but, with their fists. A total of 100 penally minutes where handed out including six game misconducts.
The Blues have scored a total of 11 goals in the first two games of the season, the most since the 1994-95 season. A rivalry match-up set for Wednesday night against Central Division rival, the Chicago Blackhawks. St. Louis fans will find out if this strong start will lead to what this town has been waiting to see for 47 years.
