Hair Extension Theft on the Rise in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) - Beauty supply shops have become the new go to place to score some quick cash, if you’re a criminal that is.
This week, smash-and-grab thieves crashed their vehicles into two different south St. Louis beauty supply store taking hair extensions by the bagful.
Local hair stylist Zach Taylor told KMOX that’s because extensions have grown in popularity over the past five years, and certain extensions can be quite pricey.
“If they’re getting the most expensive extensions, a whole bag could be worth $500 to a thousand dollars,” he said.
Also they’re small easy to grab and have no codes or serial numbers that can be tracked.
The owner of Kings Beauty Supply on S. Kingshighway at Chippewa told KMOV criminals took about $10,000 in hair extensions before fleeing the scene Monday.
Thieves hit Forever Young Beauty Supply Sept. 27 and Oct. 31st.
Kings Beauty Supply Oct. 28th.
In May of this year, smash-and-grab thieves shattered the front of three beauty supply stores, one in north St. Louis County and two in the City of St. Louis.
Similar crimes have also been reported in places like Las Vegas, Atlanta, Houston and Miami.
