EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) – Services will be Friday for a mother and two of her young sons who died in a wreck near Litchfield that prosecutors say was caused by her husband.
Thirty-one-year-old Alfredo McGee is charged with driving under the influence in connection with the Oct. 25 accident on Interstate 55.
The wreck killed 27-year-old Alea Shannon, 8-year-old Alfredo McGee Jr. and 2-year-old Armondo McGee.
Illinois State Police say the car was either stopped or moving slowly in traffic when a van hit it from behind.
A cousin of Alfredo McGee’s tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that McGee loves his family, and that relatives who are supporting him say they’re waiting for the investigation to be completed.
The family recently moved to East St. Louis from Decatur.
