Macy’s Moves Joan Jett Off South Dakota Float

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Rocker Joan Jett says she’s stepping off South Dakota’s float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade because political agendas are getting in the way of a fun event.

Some South Dakota farmers and ranchers were unhappy with Jett on the state float because she supports People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which promotes a vegetarian diet and criticizes livestock production practices.

Macy’s says everyone agreed it was best to replace Jett with someone else. She’ll move to another float.

In her statement Friday, Jett says she’ll focus on entertaining the millions of people who will watch what she calls a great American tradition.
