LESLIE, Ark. (CBS St. Louis) – A waitress at a local pizzeria was let go by her employers after she called the police on a woman she saw drinking alcohol while breastfeeding a newborn child at the same time.
According to Arkansas Matters, former Gusano’s Pizzeria employee Jackie Conners saw the woman, 28-year-old Tasha Adams, consume multiple alcoholic beverages last Wednesday.
She decided to take action out of concern for the child, and reached out to local authorities for help.
“Me being a mom, and just seeing something like that and seeing a baby that can’t speak for itself having a parent do something like that is just unacceptable,” Conners was quoted as saying.
Mere days after doing so, however, Conners said she was fired because of her decision to handle the matter herself.
When contacted by Arkansas Matters, managers at Gusano’s said that was not the reason for her termination, but did not explain further.
Adams was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor. The child, just 7 months old, was reportedly released to other family members.
