BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) – Services are set for a southwestern Illinois man who was working as a civilian aircraft mechanic in Afghanistan when he was killed by what his brother said was a rocket explosion at a U.S. air base.
Kenneth Haas of Belleville tells the Belleville News-Democrat that 64-year-old Albert Haas was killed Nov. 29 at Bagram Air Force Base.
Kenneth Haas says his brother was a Vietnam veteran who volunteered for duty at Bagram, working on helicopters and fixed-wing airplanes.
Albert Haas’ employer, AAR Airlift of Palm Bay, Fla., flew his family to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to meet up with the man’s casket.
Haas’ funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Renner Funeral Home in Belleville, followed by burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery near St. Louis.
