Burglary Spree Hits Parts of Rural Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOX) – A burglar is targeting homes in rural areas in DeSoto and Festus.

High-ticket items like jewelry, electronics, and firearms are missing.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Captain Ron Arnhart is asking residents to watch for any suspicious activity but not take matters into their own hands.

“We don’t want anybody to go out and put themself in harm’s way so just be a good observer,” he said.

Arnhart advises residents to write down license plate numbers of any unknown cars and descriptions of strangers walking door-to-door.

“If you have someone in your neighborhood or in your area that may be knocking on doors and saying ‘hey, I’m looking for this individual, I lost my dog’ or something like that, you might want to just go ahead and notify the sheriff’s office and let us check it out,” he added.
