Missing Alton Woman’s Remains Found in Greene County

ALTON, Ill. (AP) – Two men have been charged with murder in the death of an Alton woman whose body was found dismembered.

Both 28-year-old Patrick A. Chase of Alton and 30-year-old Brandon L. Chittum of Collinsville face counts of first-degree murder, dismembering a human body and concealment of a homicidal death.

The men are charged in the death of 30-year-old Courtney Coats. Police found Coats’ body Friday along the Illinois River in Greene County. She was reported missing Nov. 25.

Both men are held on $1 million bail. Neither man had a listed home telephone number.

The charges claim the men severed Coats’ arms, legs and head and hid her body in a vehicle trunk. Authorities say Coats was strangled and her throat was slit.
