Thousands of Illinois residents are heading back to the classroom under a new state law allowing people to apply for a license to carry a gun.
The Illinois application process begins January 5th.
The permits require a 16-hour training course and the Alton Telegraph reports the classes are filling fast.
One instructor, Mark Maggos of Trigger Talent in Godfrey, says he has classes scheduled for many weekends ahead. Another business, Ramparts Range in Pocahontas, Illinois has trained 650 people since October.
In July, Illinois became the last state in the nation to approve a law allowing concealed carry.
State Police say they expect around 400-thousand applicants in the first year.
