ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A fire at a butcher shop has caused extensive damage to two buildings in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
Firefighters arrived at the 2-alarm fire at about 5:30 a.m. Monday.
“When we arrived it was fully engulfed and we had extension into the neighboring building which is also a two-story brick building,” St. Louis Fire Capt. Garon Mosby said.
Nearly 48 personnel were at the scene helping to extinguish the blaze.
Capt. Mosby said the sub-degree temperatures became a major concern at this fire. “It’s very cold and we are using water so ice, of course, is an issue.”
The fire originated from Obama Meat Market in the 2000 block of East Grand Blvd. No injuries have been reported at this time.
The market and the building are owned by Obama Shalabi told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he will rebuild.
