Parkway School Buses Go Green

Carol Daniel

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – New buses are taking students to school in the Parkway School District but these aren’t just any bus, they’re “green” buses.

Will Rosa, Director of Transportation for the Parkway School District, explains the 30 green buses run on compressed natural gas and are expected to save a lot of money.

“They burn about 2,000 gallons a year so you’re looking at maybe $100,000 a year over the course of a life of a bus 12-15 years. It can be substantial, a million dollars, a million and a half dollars,” says Rosa.

Unlike many districts, Parkway runs its own fleet of school buses. Rosa says 9 buses have already been delivered, the rest should be in place by the end of this month. They’re being paid for by a $1.5 million federal grant from East West Gateway Council of Governments.
