Red-Light Camera Ordinance Ruling

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The city of St. Louis’ red-light camera ordinance is invalid! That’s the ruling from a St. Louis Circuit Judge.

Judge Steven Ohmer ruled Tuesday that the city cannot attempt to enforce the ordinance, send violation notices, process payments or send collection letters.

The ruling came in a suit filed by two women who received tickets. Their lawyer argued that four previous court rulings had invalidated the city’s ordinance.

The city had dismissed the tickets right after the suit was filed. Judge Ohmer ruled it was clear they were dismissed in order to avoid an injunction and that the suit should go on in the “general public interest”.

The question of red light cameras is expected to eventually be decided in the State Supreme Court.
