GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOX) - More federal money for more infrastructure is the only way to keep the economy going – that’s the message from Vice President Joe Biden. He was in Granite City on Wednesday at America’s Central Port to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or as it’s more well known, the federal government’s stimulus package. That port has received millions from the federal government in stmulus dollars for various projects over the past five years.

Biden gave his speech to several hundred supporters and port workers.

In a speech in front of several hundred supporters and port workers, Biden said if the United States doesn’t put more money into building transportation infrastructure, it will lose business to countries like China that are rapidly building.

“Businesses go where infrastructure exists, because when the infrastructure exists, it brings down the cost of doing business, the cost of transportation and it attracts people,” Biden explained.

The vice president visited the south part of the port that recently got another federal grant for expansion.

He did not talk to the public or the media.
