(KMOX) – A proposal by President Obama to continue a ban on commercial horse slaughter in the U.S. would affect a Missouri plant.
A measure approved earlier this year withholds money through September for Agriculture Department inspections necessary for slaughterhouses to process horse meat for human consumption.
Animal protection advocates are applauding the President and urging Congress to adopt the proposal.
Besides Missouri, there are horse slaughterhouses in New Mexico and Iowa.
