ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The brutal freeze-thaw cycle of a St. Louis winter inevitably leads to potholes and area roads received more than their share of punishment.

Road crews are heading out in force with an ambitious goal of filling in major potholes within 24 hours of hearing about them.

MoDOT District Engineer Greg Horn says they’ve already been plenty busy.

“Last year, we repaired a thousand potholes through the whole year. In January and February of this year, we’ve already received 568 pothole repairs,” says Horn.

But they can’t fix potholes that they don’t know about.

So as part of their “Enhanced Pothole Patrol” MoDOT’s opening up all forms of communication to connect with the public.

On Monday, MoDOT will launch an all-out assault to smooth things out and they’re looking for your help by either calling their 24/7 customer service number at 1-888-ASK-MODOT or by going to their website: www.modot.org.

You can also use their Facebook page, email them or even use your smart phone to report a pothole sighting.
