MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. (KMOX) – Watlow, an industrial heating systems manufacturer, announces plans to expand in Maryland Heights. As an incentive, the St. Louis County Council has given first round approval to up to about $4 million for the project.

Watlow has been in St. Louis since the 1960s, but now it’s spending $30 million expanding and redesigning, and says it’ll hire as many as 50 more people because of it.

County Executive Charlie Dooley says he asked for $30 million in bonds for new equipment for the company.

“It’s about jobs,” he says. “It’s always about jobs. It’s also to enhance the property there, to get them and place, and give them state of the art information.”

The request now goes onto the procurement department, and it’ll be finally approved in about two weeks.

The end result will be a technology center that the company says will be used for research and development. They plan to redesign 56,000 square feet and add on 30,000 square feet of new space.

The project will likely be finished in 2016.
