STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. (KMOX) - Mississippi Lime Company President Bill Ayers says an initial investigation into Friday’s deadly mine accident indicates a problem involving a piece of underground mining equipment.

Two workers were killed at the site in Sainte Genevieve County. They’ve been identified as 53-year-old John Hahl from Farmington and 29-year-old Chris Rawson from Hillsboro.

Mississippi Lime is based in St Louis.

All operations at the accident scene have been halted.

The Mine Safety and Health Administration will conduct an investigation.
