Most St. Louis Area Police Departments Aren’t Accredited

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Is the police department that patrols the streets of your neighborhood actually accredited?

Better Together spokesman Dave Leipholtz says their recent study found that among 60 departments that patrol the St. Louis region, accreditation is by far the exception rather than the rule.

There’s about a total of 15 that are accredited, which means that is only about 25 percent of local police districts.

The Better Together study also found that some departments conduct a psychological health screening, while others do not.

Others awaiting accreditation include Ballwin, Ellisville, Manchester and Ferguson.

This information will be analyzed by a federal police research group that will release a separate report in early May.
