ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Grand kids keep you young, says SLU Care geriatrician Dr. Angela Sanford. She says activity may actually help grandparents live longer.
Sanford believes people who are grandparents tend to be more active overall, leading to a healthier life.
“The being active part helps you decrease your fall risk,” Sanford says. “It helps you with your balance and your strength in general. You know the more you do with your grandchildren, it sure beats just sitting at home.”
Sanford says playing with grand kids also helps with multi-tasking which stimulates cognitive abilities. That helps keep both the mind and the body strong.
