ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Ted Cruz says he’s the last, best chance to stop Donald Trump from capturing the Republican nomination for president.
He points out he’s beaten Trump at the polls nine times heading into today’s voting in Missouri, Illinois and three other states.
“And what we’re seeing, is Republicans uniting behind our campaign because we recognize that nominating Donald Trump would be a disaster and it would elect Hillary Clinton, which would be truly catastrophic for the country,” Cruz says.
It’s mathematically impossible for Marco Rubio or John Kasich to capture the nomination at this point, Cruz says, so it’s either himself or Trump.
He told KMOX host Dave Simons that voters in the central part of the U.S. are fed up with people who don’t keep their promises once they’re sent to Washington D.C.
“We’ve got the lowest percentage of Americans working of any year since 1977,” he says. “We’ve seen wages stagnating over and over and over again, and people are fed up and they’re ready for a real change.”
Cruz repeated his main campaign promises that if elected, he’ll abolish the IRS, repeal Obamacare and pass a simple flat tax.
