ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The American Red Cross of Eastern Missouri has deployed a dozen volunteers to flood-weary southern Louisiana to help with shelter assistance and clean-up efforts.
Chapter CEO Cindy Erickson expects that amount to grow within the coming weeks, “We actually ended up holding back some of our volunteers, just because we were expecting flood waters down in Cape Girardeau. So, now we are starting to release the volunteers who’ve stepped up to say they’ll go.”
Erickson says she’s spoken with some of the twelve from the St. Louis area who are in Louisiana, including a man who’s handling the logistics of setting up a new response headquarters down there, “He was just going through the neighborhoods he could get into. Said it’s just devastating. Saw houses completely underwater.”
