ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Union electricians have been taking up a collection for patients at St. Louis Childrens Hospital.

Josh Peneston and others from IBEW Local 1 roamed the aisles of the South County Toys-R-Us on Saturday, picking out items to donate.

“Monetary-wise, we’ve raised in the $5,000 range. Toy-wise, we’ve filled up 4 or 5 shopping carts,” Peneston told KMOX.

Peneston said they’ll make a check presentation to the hospital’s child life services fund on September 1st.

Peneston said through interactions at the BJC construction site near Childrens Hospital, electricians learned about the need, “Childrens Hospital, in general, is low on toys right now. Anybody that wants to do this can play a part. It’s not specific to us. We’re just trying to get something started.”
