ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The Cardinals added some catching depth to the big league roster, on Sunday.
They activated Brayan Pena off the disabled list and promoted Carson Kelly from AAA Memphis.
The Cardinals also moved pitcher Seth Maness from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
And, they designated Memphis infielder Dean Anna for assignment.
On KMOX’s “Mike Matheny Show” Sunday, the Cards manager said he is excited for Carson Kelly to get his first taste of the big leagues, “We are right in the middle of a (playoff) chase. That is priceless for a young player of any position, let alone one that can watch Yadi on how he prepares and competes.”
Matheny told show host Mike Kelly that the 22-year-old former infielder has shined at his new position, “Just great reports from his managers and pitching coaches on how he’s been able to think behind the plate, to be able to run a game. He throws very well and has been able to put together a good offensive season.”
