ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – (UPDATED 10:57 a.m.) We told you Tuesday that Nelly owe’s Uncle Sam more than $2 million. Well, the efforts by fans to help with #SaveNelly is picking up steam.
People are streaming 8 hours of “Hot in Herre” at a time, because every time it is streamed, Nelly gets a royalty.
He needs almost 300,000,000 streams to get out of debt.
Our previous reporting is as follows:
TMZ is reporting St. Louis rapper Nelly was slapped with a $2.4 million tax lien for the year 2013.
Reports say he’s working with the IRS to pay it back, but that he also owes the state of Missouri $150,000.
Fans are encouraging people to stream his music. Artists get less than a cent in royalties when their songs are streamed, so it’ll take up to 400,000,000 streams to put a dent in Nelly’s debt.
