St. Clair Square Mall Bomb Scare: Empty Luggage

FARIVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KMOX) — Illinois State Police and U.S. Air Force bomb squad units, Fairview Heights Police, Illinois State Police and other emergency responders descended on St. Clair Square Mall in Fairview Heights Wednesday afternoon to investigate a suspicious item found in a parking lot.

Police said the suspicious item, which turned out to be an empty suitcase, was discovered at 4:17 p.m. in the west Macy’s parking lot. The mall was never closed but the parking lot was cordoned off, people parked there couldn’t return to their vehicles for several hours.

No one was injured throughout the ordeal, police say no one in the mall was ever in danger.
