O’FALLON, Mo. (KMOX) – The search is on for the man-bun wearing suspect who has cloned at least one credit card and used it to buy thousands of dollars worth of items in O’Fallon, Brentwood, Bridgeton and elsewhere.
O’Fallon Police Officer Diana Damke tells KMOX a woman reported Thursday that someone was using her credit card, but her card wasn’t missing. Damke says that indicates it was cloned.
“Unfortunately, there are devices out there that an individual gets within a short distance from you, and they can clone your credit card. They can basically steal the information off your card without even touching it.”
She says they then can make new cards, using that information.
Investigators don’t know yet how many cards were cloned and if there are any other victims.
Damke says there are things you can do to prevent having your cards cloned.
“A good way, is to definitely not take all your cards with you.” She suggests just taking the card you’re going to need for that day.
She says you can also buy sleeves that you can put your cards in that prevent cloning.
If you know the suspect, you’re asked to call Officer Matt Stephenson at 636-240-3200.
