EDWARDSVILLE, Il. (KMOX) – The Amazon Fulfillment Center in Edwardsville has been open only a few weeks now, but already making an impact in the region.
Business at Madison County Transit has increased since the Amazon facility opened at the Gateway Commerce Center. Workers at the Fulfillment Center are becoming frequent riders.
S.J. Morrison of Madison County Transit says buses make up to 99 trips per day to the area. They have also been participating in Amazon’s new employee orientations to encourage more people to use the service.
“It’s rare when a region has this many…new, full-time jobs come in. So we’re happy that Madison County Transit was able to jump into action so quickly and provide access to that employment,” he says.
About 10 to 15 percent of the transit riders are predicted to be Amazon employees. Morrison says he’s proud of the Madison County Transit’s outreach to nearly 500 Amazon employees and hopes to continue the same level of assistance to the new workers.
