ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The mudslinging came early and often in today’s second presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. There were plenty of one-liners from each of the candidates directed at each other, and here are a few of the highlights (or should we call them ‘lowlights’)?
“I agree with everything she said” — Trump on Clinton talking about bringing Americans together. The agreement seemed to end there.
“I have great respect for women. No one has more respect for women than I do.” – Trump on comments from leaked video.
“It’s just words, folks” – Trump continues to respond on accusations of leaked video.
“I was so surprised to see him sign on with the devil,” Trump says of Bernie Sanders endorsing Hillary Clinton.
Clinton: “Good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law in our country.” Trump: “Because you’d be in jail.”
“Okay, Donald, I know you’re into big diversions tonight, anything to avoid talking about your campaign and the way it’s exploding” – Clinton on his campaign
Clinton: “Go ahead, Donald” Trump: “No, I’m a gentleman, Hillary, go ahead”
“We have to be sure that when Muslims see hate, they report it” – Trump, on Islamaphobia
“Are you going to have religious tests when people fly into our country?” – Clinton on Trump’s Muslim ban:
“This is going to be the great Trojan Horse of all time”: Trump on Clinton’s approach to Muslim immigration:
Trump quips: “Honest Abe never lied, that’s the big difference between Abraham Lincoln and you”
“I understand the tax code better than anybody who’s run for president.” – Trump before answer questions about his tax returns.
Anderson Cooper: “Can you say how many years you have avoided paying personal federal income taxes?” Trump: “No.”
Clinton: “Children listen to what is being said […] and there’s a lot of fear – teachers and parents are calling it the Trump Effect.”
“She has tremendous hate in her heart.” – Trump
“I respect [Trump’s] children…I think that says a lot about Donald.” – One positive thing Clinton says about Trump
“[Hillary] doesn’t quit, she doesn’t give up…She’s a fighter. I disagree with much of what she’s fighting for…But she does fight” – One positive thing Trump says about Clinton
