MADISON, Ill. (KMOX) – The NHRA & Gateway Motorsports Park announced Tuesday an agreement has been reached to push the AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals back one week in 2017.

The track in nearby Madison, Illinois will flip its traditional weekend with the track in Reading, Pennsylvania that hosts the Dodge NHRA Nationals.

That means NHRA racing will return to Gateway, September 29th through October 1st, 2017.

“Hosting our event on the last weekend of September should provide more enjoyable conditions for our fans. In addition, many of our racers would like the opportunity to attack our racing surface under ideal conditions for shattering records,” said Gateway Motorsports Park general manager Chris Blair in a news release.

The St. Louis area race will become the 3rd in the NHRA’s 2017 Countdown to the Championship, instead of the 2nd.
