Catherine Cares provides Heartbeat Bears, as well as restaurant and fuel gift cards to families of babies who receive a life-threatening diagnosis. Our heartbeat bears were launched in February and were designed with the help of Build-A-Bear Workshop. Our Heartbeat Bears contain a pocket which holds a recording device. When a baby receives a life-threatening prenatal or newborn diagnosis, our hospital partners staff records the baby’s heartbeat on the device and presents the Heartbeat Bear gift to the baby’s family. Our restaurant gift cards lessen the burden of planning meals and grocery shopping when you are devastated by a diagnosis. And our fuel cards help families get to the numerous doctor appointments a diagnosis requires.
We want families to know they are not alone on this journey. Regardless of the outcome of the diagnosis, they will come through on the other side. They may be forever changed but they will be able to smile again.
Catherine Cares was founded by Wayne and Lauren Turley after their second daughter, Catherine Marie, received a prenatal diagnosis of Trisomy-18 as a result of Lauren’s 20-week ultrasound. Catherine was born at 33 weeks and lived for an hour. Catherine Cares is her legacy.
