ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOX) – Cars of a freight train derailed Saturday afternoon in south St. Louis County, spilling coal onto Interstate 55 and prompting the closure of traffic there until early Sunday morning.

County police reported the spill around 3:30 Saturday afternoon and informed the media that both northbound and southbound lanes of I-55 were re-opened by 8:30 Sunday morning.

The train derailed on tracks between Butler Hill Road and Lindbergh.

No injuries were reported.
