ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Authorities are not yet releasing the name of the man killed in an early morning house fire in Jennings.

Riverview Fire Chief Keith Goldstein says flames were shooting out the kitchen window and the roof when they pulled onto Mulvale Drive off Jennings Station Road at about 1:30. He said the homeowner arrived and them his roommate was probably still inside.

“As they came through the kitchen they found a 47-year-old male deceased on the floor with a bunch of debris on top of him, drywall and stuff that had fallen from the fire,” he says.

Goldstein says it appears the victim left the kitchen with food on the stove. He says the water was running in the kitchen sink, indicating he tried to fight the fire, but was overcome by smoke.
