ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – There’s a happy ending to the story about the theft of Christmas trees from a Shriners’ lot in the metro east.

Just a couple of days after it was reported that six Fraser Firs worth about 300 dollars had been stolen from the Alt-Wood Shriners’ Club lot in Wood River, an anonymous donor came along and gave the club $300 cash.

Club treasurer Dan Huber tells the Alton Telegraph that he noticed the trees missing on November 26th. Word of the thefts made it onto the Wood River Police Department’s Facebook page and then into the news. After hearing the reports, a businessman came forward and covered the clubs losses.

The money raised by the lot is donated to the Shriners’ hospital.

Police have talked to several nearby businesses about the theft and checked surveillance video, but still haven’t found who took the trees.
