ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – University City has added another K9 officer to its police force. The city hopes the public will chip in to help pay for him.

Police Captain Fredrick Lemons says they’re looking to raise $25 thousand to help cover housing, training and new equipment for “Rhino”.

“We’re asking for different sponsors, from those of $1000 all the way down to $50. We’re very thankful to the Griffith Foundation for giving an $8000 donation to the actual purchase of the dog itself,” he says.

Rhino will work with Brewer, who’s currently in training. Right now there aren’t any K9s working the streets in University City. Lemons says they’re accepting cash and checks at the U City Police Department, in kind donations, such as treats and food, are also welcome.
